Annealing as a Heat Treatment
Annealing is a heat treatment process used to alter the mechanical properties of metals. During annealing, the metal is heated to a specific temperature and then cooled in a controlled manner.

Soft annealing
In soft annealing, a steel material is typically heated to just below the so-called A1 transformation point in order to achieve low strength and high ductility.
Stress-relief annealing
Stress-relief annealing reduces internal stresses in the microstructure of metal components, thereby minimizing the risk of undesirable dimensional and geometric changes during subsequent machining steps or when the component is put into service.
